Hi friends! It's been a while since we put out a podcast or updated the blog.

We are most certainly still alive and kicking and yes, we still love love love our reality television.

But, there have been too many other priorities (work & family) that have prevented us from keeping up on our favorite past time of dishing on our favorite shows.

So, if anyone has been wondering what happened to us (we hope someone has!), now you know.

We wish all the reality television fanatics out there a fabulous holiday season and Happy New Year!

While we do not consider ourselves true bloggers here at Reality Chick Chat, we do try to maintain our blog from time to time. 

We like to do updates on our upcoming podcast, post preview videos of Real Housewives and other shows and the occasional blog post about whatever is on our minds. But bloggers we are not.

We leave the daily blogging to the many dedicated bloggers out there who do it well and keep fans up-to-date on the latest from Reality TV Land.

Since we will not be recording a podcast in the next two weeks we would like to share a few blogs we love to read over here at Reality Chick Chat. I'm not sure about all of you but I love it when we see the Housewives and their families having fun.

The Jersey meets California in an RV theme has actually been worth watching. It's a lot better than ambush sit downs, bashing other wives (mainly Teresa) and name calling of episodes past.

Yes, there is still the issue with Jac and Teresa festering in the background and grumpy Caroline, but it's part of the show and it has to play out.

From this preview they look like they are having fun....or having fun trying.

BLK Water Review

If you are a fan of the Real Housewives of New Jersey you know that BLK water has been shoved down our throats by their constant promotion of it in the story line this season.

On last Sunday's episode Chris Laurita, the Manzo boys and a few other guys headed to a food expo in Washington DC called the Fancy Food Show. They were there to get more exposure for their BLK product and the Bravo cameras were rolling.

There is a lot of buzz on Twitter that BLK is "dirty water" "swamp water" and several other creative terms. I will admit the whole concept of chugging black water absolutely makes me want to gag. I'm not sure why. I enjoy red wine, coca cola sodas and other dark colored beverages. But black water?

So I decided to check out the BLK website and see if I could find a location in my area where they sell it. Sure enough it's sold at the BevMo. I was making a trip to that area so my three kids and I loaded up and made that one of our stops. One bottle was $1.99, which was much cheaper than expected.

But back to the BLK website. I thought it was odd that the site still hasn't launched. As of today it says site launch in 73 days. We all know the taping of this season of RHONJ was last year. Why is the site not fully up by now? I'm sure there is a reason and quite honestly I'm not all that concerned. They had enough information I was looking for anyways.  And if you want one of those BLK shirts the Manzo & Laurita's are always wearing you can buy one on the site for $19.99. (Maybe they can send us one and we will do a giveaway - hint hint)

After we got home from running errands I immediately put the BLK in the fridge so it would be chilled by the time Rose and I recorded the podcast. In the mean time I went to Twitter to talk about how I was going to do a taste test later that evening. It ended up being one of the funniest Twitter conversations I've had in a while. Thank you to @RealityTVBites_ , @YAMAMASBOX , @duffy1958 & @thekittensmeow for making me laugh. Also, @MoiandI , @BRW_RealityTV and @tracycopy should be mentioned since they responded during the actual taste testing. Twitter can be a fun place. Just be careful after dark (no pun intended). LOL

I'm going to admit that I was anticipating BLK to smell and have a foul vitamin/mineral taste. Plus my funny Twitter friends had me second guessing this whole taste testing thing. I thought I was going to get the runs! (Google fulvic acid side effects.) But I knew I wasn't going to drink that much so I took my chances. I was prepared with a back up glass of ice cold water with a slice of lemon. For my BLK tasting I pulled out a quaint little port glass because almost anything tastes better in a fancy little glass.

When I poured the BLK water it was definitely black. Very very dark. Almost like Jagermeister (sorry I don't know how to put the fancy little dots over the A). I only wish I had some Jager to compare the color to but I'm going to bet BLK is darker.

Before I took my first sip I smelled it. There really isn't any smell and I consider myself to have a pretty good sniffer. So I slowly took a sip.

I know this sounds weird but for me it initially had no taste but it didn't feel like regular water. No. It's not thick. No. It didn't have things floating around. It was almost like a heavy sensation but it wasn't. I'm sorry, but it was just different. I do love sparkling mineral water. I buy cases of  S. Pellegrino at Costco and most people think that is gross. So to each his own, right?

After another sip I determined there was a slight mineral after taste. Good news was it didn't make me gag like I was expecting. But it really wasn't refreshing to me. Just my initial opinion. Maybe it's an acquired taste.

Let's get into what BLK is. Here is what is written on the actual bottle:

This morning I decided to compare the color to other dark beverages. As you can see it really is pretty dark.

I think BLK has it's place for health nuts who might actually enjoy the benefits it claims on the bottle. I might be a nut but I'm not a health nut so this is not something I would normally make a habit of buying. 

This morning before my husband went to work he said, "I saw that BLK water in the fridge. It tastes like shit." I said, "You thought it had a taste?" and he replied "Yeah, it's like that crap they make you drink for colonoscopies.You know, the stuff to make you shit." OK. Let me just say, I am not married to a Joe Giudice! But those were his words. 

So there you have it. I thought it really wasn't all that bad. If you are looking for a healthy drink to throw back from time to time maybe it's for you. Hopefully it won't "make you shit" if you drink the whole bottle.

All New Reality Chick Chat Tonight!

On the next Reality Chick Chat Rose and Melissa will give their take on the latest episodes of Mobwives, The Real Housewives of New Jersey and The Real Housewives of Orange County.

It was a sort of happily ever after season finale of Mobwives and the ladies were able to gather for a family style dinner where they were all able to put their differences aside. At least until the reunion show that is scheduled to air this upcoming Sunday evening on VH1. Boy does that look crazy! But who really cares, all we want to know is when is Big Ang's spin-off show starting? We LOVE Big Ang! And isn't Little Louie super cute?

But before that happens if you can't get enough of the Mobwives style programming then you'll be glad to know that Mobwives Chicago is schedule to premiere on VH1 on Sunday, June 10. We will have to see if these ladies have what it takes to give the fans what they love. By the looks of them I'm a little scared to tell you the truth. These ladies look like they don't take shit from anyone!

From not taking shit to slinging shit we move on to The Real Housewives of New Jersey. In the last episode it is clearly evident that everyone loves to trash talk but no one can take it and everyone is still consumed with Teresa's every move. Can this story line please stop? I hate seeing Teresa cry. Or anyone for that matter. This episode drove me nuts and I can't wait to discuss it with Rose.

And finally,  we will find out what is going on with the ladies from The Real Housewives of Orange County. I'll admit I haven't watched last nights episode yet. Don't hate, I've been busy! So that is my homework for today. But from a video I saw of Briana and Vicky on Stoopid Housewives it looks like Vicky is up to her me me me ways.

Glamping Anyone? Thoughts On RHOC and More!

It was a fun week for reality television and so much to talk about but in REAL life we have things going on and can't do a podcast this week.

I don't know about Rose, but I'm gathering all my white clothes because I feel like heading up to the hills to go glamping. I also need to find a good screw top bottle of red and a friend who is willing to drive. Woo hoo!!

All joking aside, if you watched Real Housewives of Orange County last night you know what I'm talking about! All I know is I can only imagine Travis probably couldn't wait for Alexis to check out so she would stop calling him at the front desk every 10 minutes.  I enjoyed this episode. It was fun seeing most of the women out of their elements. I wouldn't exactly call where they stayed camping or glamping - but whatever. I hate camping myself but I could easily enjoy a few nights in a cabin where they stayed. How is it camping when you have beds, food delivered to you and real wine glasses? It may not have been the W or the Ritz, but it was nice as far as cabins in the woods go.

Did anyone else notice Sarah Winchester was no where to be found on this episode? Or did I miss her two second cameo? Maybe that was her when they heard something lurking in the woods. It wasn't a bear it was Sarah gathering info for her latest Bravo blog. Yes my friends. She blogged this week. Will we see her next week? It looks like it. And is Bravo spinning a new look for Slade? Looks like we learn he speaks fluent Japanese. Don't believe me? Watch the video on Bravo by clicking here.

On the season finale of Shahs of Sunset the group gathered at the end for a celebratory dinner for Mike's closing on a recent real estate deal. I know a lot of people were disappointed in the ending but I enjoyed it. Everyone came together, differences aside, and had a nice meal as friends. It ended on a positive note even though there was obvious issues festering in the background. Do all reality show finales have to end with major drama? NO! It was refreshing for a change. Good news is Shahs was renewed for a second season!

The drama on Mobwives continues and probably will all the way to the bitter end this season. I'm not sure I even want to say what I think about what is going on with the ladies on this episode but here I go. I agree a little bit with what Carla had to say about Renee.  Do I think she should have kept her trap shut about it?  Most definitely! But then there wouldn't be someone new for Renee to go bat shit crazy on. Or a new story line to keep the viewers glued to the tube to see what is going to happen next.

And let's just admit it,  if we had someone like Renee in our lives it would get a little exhausting walking on eggshells in fear of pissing her off. The on again off again friendships is beyond what I could deal with  so that's why I can relate to Carla's attitude about it all. I know in the end they will make up and then Renee will more than likely be pissed at whoever got her all hot under the collar about their twisted version of what Carla actually said. We will have to wait until this Sunday to see how it all unfolds or gets resolved (if it ever does).

Has anyone watched Mama's Boys Of The Bronx? It's one of my new favorite shows. The cast is funny and the show is entertaining. Whether or not you get the dynamics of Italian-American mothers and sons or not is besides the point. These guys and their mothers/father/aunt are hilarious. They also love their fans. Show the guys some love and follow them on Twitter. Mama's Boys airs Monday nights on TLC.

And finally, who is excited for the season premiere of Real Housewives of New Jersey this Sunday on Bravo? I know Rose and I can't wait. Buckle your seat belts because it looks like it's going to be a wild ride!

Mama's Boys Of The Bronx

Well, as certain shows are coming to an end (like The Shahs Of Sunset) I have to find myself another  group of individuals to get hooked on and I think I've found them. The very animated cast of TLC's Mama's Boys Of The Bronx wins hand down.

Mama's Boys follows a group of thirty-something Italian-American men who proudly still live at home. While I find men in their twenties still living at home more normal than men in their thirties, I can find something endearing about a grown child, who works and seems to have a life, that enjoys their family so much that they love living at home. Given the state of the economy in the past couple of years it almost makes sense. Hopefully, these "boys" are helping pay Mama's mortgage and electrical bill. Especially with all the laundry some of them are doing.

There are five Mama's Boys:  Anthony, Frankie, Giovanni, Peter and Chip. Someone please tell me Chip is a nickname for "Chip off the old block," or short for chocolate chip because he loves the cookies or because he tans so much. I'm having hard time getting used to that name. Especially since Chip looks like he should be a Vinnie, Mike or Joe. And is it me or does he look like Joe Giudice on steroids?  Even if his name throws me for a loop I think he's comical.

I don't have a favorite Mama's Boy quite yet since I've only seen two episodes since it premiered on Monday, but I do know the show is grabbing my attention and I can't quite figure out why. Maybe it's because they are Italian? Maybe it's because I can see similarities in their mom's from women in my family and my husbands family? Maybe because it's a train wreck and we all know those are hard to look away from.

I'm sure most people will find it hard to relate to grown men relying on their doting mothers for everything to make their lives run smoothly. But I think some of you can secretly relate. Whether it's your brother, cousin or that uncle who gets treated differently. You know someone like these guys even if they don't live at home anymore. And you know a mother who still treats her grown son like the Mama's on the show even if their son has his own place. Heck, my own mother used to go visit my brother just to clean his house! Oh yes, it happened and she had every excuse in the book why she would do that for him but not me!

I can't promise this show will change your life, because it shouldn't. It is a reality TV show created to entertain the audience. The men and their mothers are not representatives of all Italian-Americans and I hope you don't think that. They are simply fun to watch. Their accents, mannerisms and style are over the top but that's what makes them who they are and fun to watch.

So what are you waiting for? Get to know the Mama's Boys Of The Bronx. They will grow on you. (Or annoy the hell out of you, but you know you are still watching.) What do you think about this show? Do you have a favorite Mama's Boy? Leave a comment!

Reality Chick Chat Podcast Ep. 8

Reza Or Freddie Mercury: Who Has the Better 'Stache?

The second episode of season 1 of  Shahs of Sunset on BravoTV aired last night and I gave them a second chance.  Watching them party in Vegas was entertaining to say the least.

Rose and I will have more thoughts on Shahs on our next podcast.  But one thing I wanted to point out before that is has anyone else noticed Reza Farahan's mustache is reminiscent of Queen's frontman Freddie Mercury's mustache? I love Queen and so far I'm loving Reza.

Both wear it well, but who rocks the 'stache better? You decide.

Reality Chick Chat Podcast Episode 6 - All New Tonight!

Was Mobwives crazy or what? It was all loco up in the Poconos. Can Renee ever just relax? Will Drita learn new anger management skills to keep her from bashing in Ramona's big mouth? This show is so wrong on so many levels, but it's hard to turn it off. We love it and just can't get enough..

That sort of sounds like an '80's song (Depeche Mode) which leads us into another train wreck - Real Housewives of Orange County.  It was the Bunco party that seems to never end but thank goodness it finally did. Vicky loses it, Gretchen FINALLY puts her in her place and poor Alexis gets put on the spot about her sinus surgery/nose job. Is Heather turning into the new mean girl? Will Gretchen and Alexis's friendship pull through? Will Vicky own up to what a mean witch she is? Only time will tell.

We also discuss the latest episodes of Dance Moms, Big Rich Texas and Celebrity Apprentice.

Update for Wednesday's Abrupt Ending Of The Podcast

During our live taping of Reality Chick Chat earlier tonight there was a bit of  chaos as my son ran into the room where I was taping screaming like his arm was cut off. Visibly I could see his lip was bloody and I quickly ended the podcast before our last recap.

Since we record live and do not edit the whole scenario will play out at the end of the show.  As of writing this I haven't even heard the episode yet, but I can only imagine his screaming sounded pretty dramatic. I almost hung up on Rose! But I think we somehow ended the show. I don't even remember what was said after the dramatic entrance of my son.

Just so you know he was fine. It was a minor cut and the bleeding was minimal. He gets really worked up if he sees blood, especially after a very traumatic incident he had last year that required a trip to the ER and some oral surgery. Thank God he didn't repeat that horrible night.

My son and I might do a quick call in to Reality Chick Chat Podcast for a little interview to let our listeners know exactly what happened. I'll post if we end up doing it. I think he might enjoy being interviewed!

It was Halloween on Mobwives and we get to the see the ladies have fun dressing up. But hold your breath! Drita and Ramona plan a party for the same night and the ladies are conflicted on where their loyalties should be. We also get to see Big Ang wig shopping with Drita and Carla. More fun and less drama please! Gotta love Big Ang!

On the Real Housewives of Orange County the ladies don't need Halloween to play dress up. They have a theme party! Tamara hosts a totally bitchin' 80's bunco party. And like, the ladies totally dress the part. But when Slade's totally grody Improv comedy act is brought up it gets, like, totally uncomfortable. Will Vicky gag Gretchen with a spoon?

We discuss who got voted off Celebrity Apprentice and complain that two hours of CA is too long but thanks to DVR's we will keep watching.

Rose brings up she read that some dancers from Dancing With Stars might be dissing Abbey Lee from Dance Moms. We debate her abrasive style of teaching "future dancing stars" and wonder if Jill and Kendall will continue to be on the show even though they went to the dark side (Candy Apple).

Book Review: MOBDAUGHTER - The Mafia, Sammy "The Bull" Gravano, And Me! By Karen Gravano

First of all before I start I'm going to admit I'm not the type to go out and buy books written by reality television stars.  Instead of going out and buying a copy I decided I would reserve a copy from my library and whenever it came available I would read it. It was my way of justifying not buying it, but I was intrigued by what Karen Gravano from Mob Wives might have to add to her already well-known tale of having a father in the mob.

After I reserved Ms. Gravano's book I also reserved a few books for my sons upcoming school project. So when I got the call that there were books waiting to be picked up I assumed it was those. Mobdaughter wasn't being released until Valentine's Day so it was far from my mind.

My son and I went to the library this past Saturday to get his books and to my surprise Mobdaughter was waiting.  It hadn't been released so I thought to myself "SCORE!" I was going to get to read it before most people could even get their hands on it and I was excited. It sounds lame, but it's the little things that make my day.

I started the book with no expectations. I am a fan of Mob Wives and I know all about Karen's dad and what he represents in terms of the mafia lifestyle. I have not read any books about Mr. Gravano but I've seen and heard enough to know exactly who he is. If you have never heard of Sammy "The Bull" then I would imagine you are living under a rock or just too young to have heard about him.

The Prologue opens with Karen, her mother, daughter and nephew driving to see Sammy, who is incarcerated at a maximum-security federal facility at an "undisclosed location." It has been years since she has seen him and you feel the apprehension and excitement. So many years have passed and the last time Karen spoke with her dad they spent most of the time arguing.

When they finally get to the area where they would visit Sammy it already feels ominous.  Karen describes where they are as looking like the inside of a cell with drab cement-block walls. You feel sad when she describes seeing her father stand at the end of the hallway with the guard.  He is ill from Grave's disease and looks 20 years older than what he is.  It doesn't matter who your dad is, seeing him in prison or no prison in that condition must be difficult.

Her description of the whole meeting is frightening to me.  I've never been to a jail or a prison to visit anyone. I hope I never have to. And a visit with your father should not be in a prison. It is wrong on all levels, but in her case it is what it is. This is her life and she's giving the readers a glimpse into a place many of us will never know or understand.  I feel the prologue sort of sets the tone for the book. No matter what we might think, being a gangster is not glamorous.  Because in the end you either wind up dead or in prison.

The book opens up with Karen reflecting about when she started becoming aware her dad might be a gangster.  She was about nine when she started making the connection, but even at that age there was an unspoken knowledge that you don't ask questions. So she goes about with her childhood.

We get a glimpse throughout the book of her relationship with her father. At times it's sweet and like any typical father-daughter relationship. They are extremely close. Other times it's almost dysfunctional.  I give Karen credit for laying it all out there.  The good, the bad and the ugly.

It is very clear throughout the entire book that she looks up to her father, she loves him and is more like him than her mother.  It's mentioned over and over and that part got a little redundant. But I get it. It's just part of her personal story.

Their relationship and friendship with each other is easy to understand. I think it givers readers a sense of understanding that no matter what your family does or who your father is it doesn't change how you love each other. 

For anyone interested in learning a little bit about who her dad was and is, the mafia lifestyle, John Gotti and life as a mob daughter this book will wet your appetite.

When her dad and John Gotti are in the Metropolitan Correctional Center she tells us how her mom was an "obsessively punctual woman, so the days we went to see Dad, she'd insist we leave our house at least two hours before our scheduled visiting time."  Later she says John Gotti gave her dad problems about that because his family was always late. True or not she said he complained to her dad and said, "It makes me look like a jerkoff that your family's here first, and my family's not even here at all." They were there, they were just late.

You will enjoy Mobdaughter if you want to get a different look into the lives of some well-known gangsters like her dad or John Gotti. It isn't extensive, but it's enough. Karen obviously keeps the subject mainly on her dad, but it's inevitable to bring in other guys to tell the story. I like that. It was a different perspective than what we normally hear about them.

If you think you are going to read some juicy details about her and Lee D'Avanzo because the first season of Mob Wives played up the drama between her and Drita about him being in the book you might be slightly disappointed.  For me, I was glad she didn't spend a great deal of time talking about him.  He doesn't offer much to the story, but she was with him for several years so he had a role in her life and she talks about it.

We learn about Karen's wild side and we also get a taste of her soft side when she talks about the birth of her daughter, Karina.  She says, "It was such a crazy feeling realizing I'd made a baby.  My perspective changed after that.  Once you have a child, you have to be the caregiver.  From that moment on, I didn't want to be in trouble. I wanted to be a perfect mother."

We also get an inside look at the raid on her mom's home in Arizona and the whole family being arrested for an alleged ecstasy drug ring that she claims in the book that the "charges simply weren't true."

It isn't until the Epilogue that we get a closer look into how Karen got involved with Mob Wives. She barely scratches the surface on her relationships with the ladies on the show throughout the book, but it's just enough. The book is primarily about her father and their relationship not about Mob Wives.

Mobdaughter is an easy read. Even though I read a copy from my library it's safe to say this book is worth buying.  It holds your attention and it's interesting.  I enjoyed it and if you are a fan of Mob Wives and want to know more about the woman Karen Gravano and her family you will enjoy this book.
